Rutte Old Tom Genever
rutte.com Reviewed by Gin School; distillery has not claimed entry
Made to Anton Rutte's handwritten 1918 recipe and launched as Rutte Old Tom in 2019, this grain-based spirit is redistilled with seven botanicals including juniper, lemon, ginger, cinnamon, orange leaves and wormwood. A splash of malt wine makes it a genever rather than a gin — master distiller Myriam Hendrickx calls it a cross between a young genever and a classic gin. GinSchool discovery: orange leaves give a greener, more delicate citrus than the peel — a subtle twist to try in your own bill.
